Snoring is one of those annoying little quirks of life that can really ruin your day. How many times have you been lying awake in the early hours of the morning, desperate to fall asleep, but unable to due to your partner’s heavy snoring? Deep down we all know that no-one can stop themselves snoring, but it does not make it any less annoying.
After your tenth night in a row of moving into another room to get some peace and quiet, it’s time to take action. There are a host of products on the market that try to combat the problem of snoring. However, as many people will know, it’s hard to truly know which product is right for you (or more likely, your partner).
Sifting through an endless batch of snake oil can become disheartening, and it begins to feel like there is no true solution to one of the most irritating first world problems. That’s why when I read about SnoreRX, a Mandibular Advancement Devices (MAD) specifically designed to combat snoring, I felt a certain amount of trepidation.
I’ve tried other MADs before, and it’s fair to say that the market is a mixed bag. However, after taking the plunge, I am very satisfied with my SnoreRX experience. Let me take you through the pros and cons of the product to see if it might be the right fit for you as well.
Firstly, a quick science lesson (don’t panic!). When you fall asleep, the muscles in your throat “collapse” or “relax”. This relaxation naturally reduces the airflow in your throat, which causes the irritating sound we are all too familiar with. As mentioned before, SnoreRX is a Mandibular Advancement Device (MAD).
In short, a MAD gently raises your lower jaw to increase the airflow in your throat, and therefore hopefully stop you snoring. All MADs work in this way. However, the majority of MADs on the market pull your jaw forward in a single, set position, and in a world full of variety, this can be troublesome for a lot of people.
SnoreRX bucks the trend in this regard, allowing users to adjust the MAD by up to 10mm, which can make a big difference to the level of comfort experienced whilst wearing the device. The most common reason I’ve heard for people not wearing their MAD is the discomfort experienced whilst wearing it, and so this feature of SnoreRX already makes it an interesting proposition.
As with most MADs, SnoreRX utilises boil-and-bite technology, which reduces even further any possible discomfort. For those unfamiliar with boil-and-bite technology, you place the mouthpiece into boiling water for approximately 30 seconds. After that, you take it out and let it cool down slightly, before placing it in your mouth and biting down firmly. Once you have left a suitable bite mark, you take it out, and drop it in a bowl of ice water to harden.
Boil-and-bite technology allows you to have a device that is essentially customised for your mouth.Another interesting feature of SnoreRX is its product lifespan. Most MADs have a lifespan of approximately 4-6 months, whereas SnoreRX claims to have a lifespan of 12-15 months.
This is a significant increase, which is down to the material the MAD is made out of it, a durable medical grade copolymer. Once you know the difference in lifespan of SnoreRX compared to other products on the market, the slightly costly price of $99 starts to make a bit more sense.
Now you know a little bit more about SnoreRX, it’s time to look at what SnoreRX can offer you compared to other products on the market.
When it comes to MADs, it’s hard to say that one product is definitively better than another, since everyone requires different features from their device. However, SnoreRX has a lot of interesting characteristics that are worth taking note of, whether you are trying a MAD for the first time, or if you wish to experiment and see if you can find a MAD that is perfectly suited to your needs.
If you have taken the time to read this review, it is fair to assume you are interested in trying SnoreRX. After having trialled and tested a variety of different MADs, I can safely say that SnoreRX does the job perfectly well.
The high level of customisation offered by SnoreRX is one of the main reasons I tried it in the first place, and I certainly was not disappointed with how the product tailored itself to the shape of my mouth.
The product delivered on its promise of reducing snoring without causing too much discomfort, and that can only be a good thing. However, there is no such thing as a perfect product. As already mentioned, the price of $99 is slightly off-putting.
If SnoreRX delivers on its promise of a 12-15 month lifespan whilst remaining effective in preventing snoring in a comfortable way, then perhaps it is more cost effective than other MADs on the market. As with any product, it’s all down to what you are looking for; there is no such thing as a miracle cure, and SnoreRX certainly does not claim to be a magical quick-fix for snoring.
However, it is certainly a competent product with a lot to offer, so if it sounds like something you would be interested in, make up your own mind by trying it out.
